Mindfulness & Meditations
A major part of our ability to connect with the world around us depends on how present we are.
No matter how far along we are in our own journey, when we are present and connect with our inner senses, we can become much more aware of what is inside and outside of us — as well and how to connect with our environment, and others in meaningful ways.
Here I will share some of my own insights that I’ve either learned from those more experienced, or through my own personal experience.
Above all, listen to your own inner voice, as it is the foundation and source of your own truth and understanding.
“Your true face... What kind of... face is it? I wonder... The face under the mask... Is that... your true face?”
— The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
Despite it coming from a video game, it’s really quite something to think about.
In the game Majora’s Mask, you play as Link, a hero who literally wears many masks throughout the game, receiving new ones each time he aids and assists the people in the world around him.
While some masks give him special powers and abilities, and some even transform him entirely, the real person overcoming and accomplishing everything is not even Link, it’s the player.
As the player faces the challenges, puzzles, and dungeons, defeating the enemies that try to halt progress, the player actually is the one who grows and develops, the one who learns how to utilize their abilities, skills, resources, and masks to overcome the challenges—taking knowledge and experience gained to eventually help as many people as possible, and even prevent a cataclysmic catastrophe.
Like Link, we are more than the masks we wear, including our avatar. The experience, knowledge, and wisdom we gain, continues with us helping us to beat the odds, and overcome our own personal challenges.
When we meditate, it’s like being able to take a step back from our mask and our avatar, hit the ‘pause’ button, and re-evaluate our situation.
